Highlighting the key stages along the journey into philanthropy, giving the advisor greater familiarity with all aspects.
EVENT FOCUS: Unlike other areas of practice, the journey into philanthropy has many stages which can seldom all be advised upon by one practitioner. This conference will explore the key steps along the philanthropist’s journey to achieving their vision and how we, as advisors, are able to assist; From the beginning: exploring the client’s aims and preferred causes, and choosing the most appropriate giving vehicle, including discussion of donor-advised funds and philanthropy within a family office; Further along, the implementation stage: strategy, research, due diligence, evaluation; Concluding with considerations relating to impact, collaboration and ensuring the journey is well-advised, satisfying and exciting.
WHY ATTEND? Without a sound knowledge of philanthropy, professional advisors are failing to maximise a potential business opportunity. Philanthropy advice provides for a broadening and deepening of client relationships. This spotlight conference will highlight key aspects of the philanthropic journey, and thereby enable the practitioner to understand better the stages that may be less familiar and, through this, become a more confident advisor.
The STEP Philanthropy Advisors SIG is here to help build a community of professional philanthropy advisors. This session will educate attendees on the business opportunity, and give them the confidence to build a role helping clients achieve their philanthropic objectives. Topics to be covered include:
- The philanthropist’s vision
- Types of structuring / vehicles for giving
- Choice of jurisdiction
- Donor-advised funds
- Philanthropy in the family office
- Philanthropic strategy, research, due diligence
- Impact strategy and assessment
- Enjoying the journey!
WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Trust and estate planning professionals seeking to extend their knowledge of philanthropy including lawyers, accountants, consultants, wealth managers and budding philanthropy advisors. Register online at www.step.org/special-interest-spotlight-sessions-2018
