If your career lacks purpose there is a path to new meaning with On Purpose, the organisation that offers people paid placements in social organisations.
“The Associate Programme is the perfect launch-pad for your purpose-driven career. It is a one year programme that combines paid work with professional and personal development,” says Tom Rippin, CEO of On Purpose.
Each year-long placement which comes with a salary of £22.5k, gives you the opportunity to work in two purpose-oriented organisations for six months each. Past opportunities include tackling food waste at the charity FareShare; analysing impact investment deals with Big Society Capital; and looking at sustainability for a corporate like Ben & Jerry’s. These new challenges use your existing skills to solve key problems for the organisations.
Candice Motran, an Associate on the 2010 programme, says: “Being a part of the On Purpose community has been one of the most fulfilling and rewarding experiences of my career to date. In fact, I got my current role at Big Society Capital as a direct result of one of my On Purpose placements.”
As well as on the job learning, you are given a mentor who guides and challenges you to add value in your placement. You meet an executive coach every quarter focused on your personal development.
Every Friday afternoon you hear from experts from diverse sectors who share their knowledge and experience with you and your cohort. These include top professionals from McKinsey, Ellen MacArthur Foundation and the On Purpose alumni who work in social enterprise organisations.
“Your cohort is also a powerful group of like-minded people with whom you share your learning and experience,” says Rippin.
The On Purpose community comprises more than 1,500 Associates, placements, mentors, coaches and trainers across London, Paris and Berlin all of whom contribute to building a sustainable economy.
The Associate Programme is full-time, based in London and runs for 12 months from April 2018. You work in your placement 4.5 days a week and spend Friday afternoons with your cohort in training.
After the programme, 85% of Associates continue to work in purpose-led organisations. People like Joe a CE100 Network Manager with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and Caroline Co-Founder and Managing Director at The GravityLight Foundation.
Applications for the programme close on Sunday 5th November 2017.
You need to have a valid UK work permit to apply, as On Purpose is unable to sponsor visas for the programme. They are also recruiting fluent French and German speakers for Associate Programmes in Paris and Berlin.
“We are a community that welcomes diversity in all forms, through different professional and personal backgrounds and encourage applications from anyone who’s passionate about purpose-led work,” says Rippin.
