The 2015 Billionaires report, a collaboration between UBS and PWC, "sheds new light on the story of great wealth - how it's created, preserved and how it breeds philanthropy." It uses data for more than 1,300 billionaires over the past 19 years.
The report believes that this golden period of wealth creation may soon decelerate and identifies that the conditions which allow billionaires to thrive are cyclical. The research also discovered that the current generation of billionaires is ageing, with two-thirds of them in the 'corridor of wealth transfer' when they have to decide what their legacies will be.
The report suggests that the end of this 'second gilded age' of wealth creation will lead to an 'unprecedented wave of philanthropy' in many forms - foundations, endowments, social investing.
